Unannounced load shedding has turned ‘City of Lights’ to darkness on Friday night. According to K-Electric sources, the power failure in one of the main power plants has resulted in intermittent load-shedding in Karachi.
According to the spokesperson of K-Electric Sadia Dada, “a major fault occurred in Bin Qasim Power Plant has resulted in longer duration of load shedding in the city”.
Dada added “The K-Electric was facing a shortfall of at least 180 megawatts (MW). The company was “trying to offer any and every kind of assistance to the citizens”
Power outages consist of 3 -10-hour-long periods which makes Karachities life miserable, areas that are most affected by outage of electricity are Liaquatabad, Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Metroville, SITE, North Karachi, and Nazimabad.
KE Officials also expressed that areas like Nagin Chowrangi and its surroundings, Scheme 33, and Post Office Society are facing power outage for over two hours. Load shedding in Karachi has devastatingly affected the lifestyle of the residents of the area.
People of Karachi also expressed major concerns regarding their electrical appliances maintenance. They fear that regular fluctuations, low voltage and power outrage that happens every 15 minutes might damage their appliances.
